Walker's last song programme - Mercy and Grand; the Tom Waits Project - toured to critical acclaim and packed houses from London to Adelaide. Now alongside Waits and Leonard Cohen, she turns her attention to the great singer-songwriters of France, Britain and Germany, including interpretations of her father Pete Brown's love songs, written with the legendary Jack Bruce of Cream.

In the music halls of London, the underground cabaret dives of Berlin and the nightclubs of France, wartime acted as the backdrop for the performance of the forbidden and the daring. In Edwardian England, Vesta Tilley dressed as a soldier, and sang about her love for the ladies. Mischa Spoliansky was inspired to write the first gay anthem for the Weimar cabaret scene, and Hanns Eisler, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill mercilessly satirised Hitler's dictatorship in song. Jessica Walker brings her unique theatrical and vocal style to take us on a journey through alternative war songs over the last century - some iconic, some rare, some sexy. Accompanied by Joseph Atkins.

All I Want is One Night
Play
Wednesday 15th June - Saturday 18th June, 7.30pm
Joe will be joining Jessica Walker in her new play, receiving its world premiere at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. He and Jess have worked together on a number of projects over the last three years including The Girl I Left Behind Me (Brits Off Broadway 2013 and orginal cast album), Pat Kirkwood is Angry (Brits Off Broadway 2014) and Songs for Paris (Crazy Coqs, London).
In the heady atmosphere of 1930s Paris, cabaret sensation and sex symbol Suzy Solidor thrilled audiences nightly with her performances of erotic lesbian love songs. Named the most painted woman in the world, she sang surrounded by her 225 portraits, including an iconic image by Tamara de Lempicka. This intimate show transports the audience back to a night in her club at the height of her career. During an increasingly whiskey-fuelled evening, as Suzy regales the audience with her most famous songs, past and present begin to collide.
The play stars Jess as Suzy Solidor, and is directed by the Exchange's Artistic Director, Sarah Frankcom. Joe has produced new arrangements of Suzy Solidor's provocative and beautiful chansons, and will be accompanying Jess in the production on piano and acccordion.
