Joe has started the year as composer and musical director for Rutgers University's new production of Measure for Measure performed at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. He is now preparing with Liza Pulman to bring their show, Liza Pulman Sings Streisand, to the beautiful Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue for four Monday nights this coming spring - their first date is March 18th. Other venues as part of their 2019 spring tour include the National Concert Hall, Dublin and the Epstein Theatre, Liverpool.
Watch this space for dates of a new staging of Carnation for a Song, the musical revue with original songs by Joe and spoken text by Megan Cronin celebrating and exploring the lives of London's older LGBT community. The original show played to sell-out audiences at London's Young Vic Theatre (who commissioned the show) back in August 2018. Joe and Megan will be expanding and building upon the success of its previous production with new material and performances scheduled for this spring.

Joe has been busy this September completing his new choral arrangements for his latest collaboration with Jessica Walker, Not Such Quiet Girls, a joint production with Opera North and Leeds Playhouse. The piece explores the seldom-told story of the women who worked on the front line in World War I. The music featured includes popular standards from the time, some powerful anti-war songs and a new piece with words by Jess and music by Joe. The other composer spotlighted in the production is Rebecca Clarke, an undercelebrated musician whose songs and chamber music deserve to be ranked among the other 20th-century British greats. There are only four performances (29th Nov – 1st Dec) and ticketsare selling fast.
Joe joins Liza Pulman again to bring their hugely successful Streisand show back on the road this autumn, heading to, among others, venues in Bolton, Aldeburgh and Evesham. They also play three nights in October and November at the Other Palace in London's West End.
Back in August, Joe collaborated with the Young Vic Theatre once again, to compose songs for a new piece Carnation for a Song, which celebrated London's 50+ LGBT community. This workshop performance played to three packed houses over two days in August and further development is now in the works. More information about the project can be found on the Young Vic's blog.

Upon return to the UK, Joe has several further engagements with Liza Pulman's Barbra Streisand show, including an appearance at the Durham Brass Festival joined by the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, and is an Artist-in-Residence with the Lichfield Festival. Details of all these events can be found here.
Following that, Joe is collaborating once again with the Young Vic, director Megan Cronin and playwright Izzy Tennyson to create a new song cycle charting the experiences of over 50s in London's LGBT community. Then in the autumn, he and Jessica Walker are collaborating once again on a new piece, Not Such Quiet Girls, a joint production with Opera North and Leeds Playhouse, exploring the lives of women on the front line in World War I.
